Fi is the best character of any Zelda game (MINOR SPOILERS for those yet to begin Skyward Sword)

finnyoak:

northernknit:

I don’t think people realize the importance of her character and how incredibly amazing her last scene was.

People whine about her lack of character, the blandness of her personality. I have no problem with this. She’s a tool. A tool the Goddess made for a purpose and one purpose only. Anyone can tell from the beginning of Skyward Sword that she is simply doing her job as she is programmed to do just as a computer does what its programmed to do. The fact that she was created in that way makes her final scene in which she refers to Link as “Link” and not “Master” that much more impressive. She experienced happiness in a way she wasn’t created for. Yet, people still complain about a lack of personality.

Albeit, her redundant statements became annoying but she was more than just your companion. Each companion in the last two console Zeldas had a relevance to their story. The King of Red Lion’s played the most important of roles in the Wind Waker just as Midna’s fate was tied more closely to the story than any of us would have imagined.

Fi is different.

The whole series revolves around a few themes. It’s more than a “save the princess” archetype video game. There is the Triforce, the relevance of the “incarnations” of Zelda and Link, the struggle between three parts of the Triforce, the Master Sword, and many more. The Master Sword is a mainstay of the series for 21 years since its first appearance in A Link to the Past and every console game since has included the sword as the key to finishing the game. Ask any Zelda fan what their favorite parts of the games are and a great majority will say “when you pull the Master Sword from its pedestal.” Hell, ask any GAMER what their favorite moment in any video game is and you’ll get plenty of people who say it’s pulling the sword out for the first time in Ocarina of Time.

My point, which I strayed from a bit, is that Fi is different from Midna, King of Red Lions, Navi, Tatl, Ezlo or any of Link’s companions. Not only is she very much relevant to her particular game, but she is relevant to the entire series. She is the Master Sword. Every time you pull The Sword from its pedestal you’re awakening Fi. Every time you defeat Ganondorf, Vaati, or just the average Bokoblin you’re doing so with Fi.

Fi is as relevant to the series as Zelda, the Goddesses, or the Triforce. She’s my favorite character yet.

Honestly…I agree so much with this rant. Like, I’m pretty sure you just went into my brain and took all of my thoughts on Fi and put them on Tumblr.

Thank you for this.

She is beautiful and I honestly love her so much.

She’s a companion, yes, but she’s also the whole reason that you can win and defeat the evil that surrounds Link.
